THE DISRUPTOR
THE DISRUPTOR
What makes the Kilvington Classic Range Rover different?
When the Range Rover was launched in 1970 to great acclaim, it was the original disruptor, exhibited at the Louvre and hailed as an “exemplary work of industrial design”. It was revolutionary, defining a new genre of car, still now best of breed.
The Kilvington is also quite special, in a number of respects. It is neither a pimped up resto-mod, nor an opportunity to restore an old Range Rover to personal preference, both of which can lead to a vehicle devoid of the original’s character and soul. The Kilvington is a carefully curated, harmonious, measured iteration of the icon, borne of an innate understanding of what the Range Rover has always represented. All the very best aspects of the vehicle are present. Just two doors, plus the unique split tailgate. The floating roof. The castellated bonnet. Every aspect of the paired down, unadorned, elegant, handsome looks (the original Range Rover wasn’t exhibited at the Louvre for nothing!). But this authentic exterior is made as good as it can be with perfect panel gaps, crisp shut lines, immaculate deep paint, in six authentic heritage colours and with sharper detailing.
The functional, timeless interior retains its robust character, imperious, commanding driving position and extensive glass area that combine to provide the real and lasting sense of occasion that previous owners remember and people new to the original are so impressed by. But this is enhanced, in terms of look, feel and smell by swathes of immaculately stitched, finest hides as well as discreet, modern touches such as Apple Car Play and phone holders.
Beneath this skin is a power plant and running gear that ensures that the authentic sound and feel of the original Range Rover is retained, but enhanced to be as good as it can be using latest technology, mindful of the joy and driver experience only really present in an analogue and mechanical car. The sweet spot 3.9 EFi V8 engine is completely rebuilt as the perfect combination of torque and performance. Handling is enhanced by a stronger anti-roll bar, firmer springs and poly bushes, assisted by modern braking technology. On road drivability and character is considerably enhanced without compromising off-road capability.
Once built, the Kilvington Classic Range Rover can be subtlety customised for an individual’s lifestyle to include, for example, gun cabinets, storage for fishing or equestrian gear, picnic sets etc, etc.
The Kilvington Classic Range Rover is hand built to exacting standards to be as new, and completely reliable. True to the ethos and personality of the original but with every component tested and treated to last the test of time and brought up to date to truly represent the go anywhere, do anything versatility that the Range Rover was renowned for, in today’s driving environment. The unique feeling of immense confidence, air of superiority and refinement survive.
